Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Chaintré and its surroundings

The Campanile Macon Sud- Chaintre Hotel is a great base from which to explore all that Macon has to offer. The Macon Cathedral is a good place to start. Formerly the seat of the Bishop of Macon, this early 19th-century building has become a symbol of the city. Other noteworthy historical and cultural sites include Saint Vincent's Square, Saint Peter's Church, the Museum of Fine Arts(formerly a Ursuline Convent) and the Lamartine Museum. Be sure to also visit Saint-Clément Church, Saint-Peter's Church, Chateau Saint-Jean and Chateau des Perrières. For outdoor fun, the Saone River, which runs through the city, provides the chance to enjoy many water activities, including sailing, fishing and water skiing. Wine lovers can visit the numerous cellars within the city, such as Le Cellier Saint-Pierre, or they can go to the Maison Maconnaise des Vins, which offers a chance to taste world-renown brands of Burgundy, the region of France with the most special label wines. There are also a number of wine cellars and farms in the areas surrounding Macon. The Cave de Charnay-Lès-Macon is less than 10km from the Campanile Macon Sud- Chaintre Hotel, and encompasses 140 hectares, with 70 growers producing 10 white wine varieties and eight red wine varieties. The winery's ideal location in the Lamartinien Valley means you'll also be able to take a tour of Romanesque churches in the area.
